Ludington, MI - Hurley, WI 400+ miles via RV

Margit picked us up about 11:00 on Wednesday morning at our motel in Ludington, and we proceeded up the east coast of Lake Michigan through the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. I was not aware this even existed until now, even though I grew up not very far away in northern Wisconsin. It is a very pretty, interesting area, and we made many stops along the way to look at the view, take pictures, etc. This is something we would not have seen had we taken the ferry across Lake Michigan to Wisconsin, so this is an upside to our change of plans. Weather seems to be the story of this trip, as we move from one extreme to another. We have gone from extreme rainfall to extreme heat and humidity, and now to extreme COLD. The last two days the highs have barely reaced 60 degrees and the temperature gets down in the 40's at night! The further north we drove, the colder it got - which makes sense I guess.

Anyway, we camped in a National Park campground near the Lake on Wesnesday night, ran the air conditioner for a while to cool off the RV, and eight hours later the temperature was 50 degrees! Yesterday we crossed the Mackinac bridge from the lower peninsula of Michigan to the upper peninsula, or the U.P., as it is lovingly known up here.  People who live on the U.P. are known as Yoopers. They have a culture all their own, including language and accent. My friend Joanne's husband Bob, who grew up in this area was once asked what country he's from! Anyway, back to the Mackinac bridge, it was quite a thrill going across this huge, beautiful bridge with the wind howling, and stirring up the water below. Lake Michigan on the left and Lake Huron on the right. After crossing the bridge, we got on Highway 2, and followed the northern shoreline of Lake Michigan for awhile before turning north again and reaching the shore of Lake Superior. We arrived in Hurley, which is my hometown, about 6 last evening. Shortly after that Joanne and Bob took us to a Friday night fish fry, which is a big happening here. We had lightly battered and deepfried Haddock, accompanied by a roll, coleslaw and just about any form of potato you wanted. I chose JoJo's, which I love. Not on the top of the list of healthy food, but good! Tonight we will have pasties for dinner, which is another locak specialty. Cubed meat, potatoes, and onion wrapped in a pastry crust and eaten with ketchup. M-m-m-m. Tomorrow we will go to an all you can eat pasta night at a local Italian eatery, which comes highly recommended by Joanne. Do you get the idea that our visit here is revolving around food? Monday morning we leave before we gain all the weight back that we lost!

I wanted to go swimming in Lake Superior, but with the tempeatures the way they are, we may just drive out there and LOOK at the lake!  Things are improving though. The sun is currently shining, and it actually feels warm, which is a new sensation since Wednesday night.

Can't post any pictures because I don't have themon the computer, and don't have the camera with me. Next time.
