Glasgow, Montana - Saco, Montana 43 miles

Woke up to cloudy skies but no rain. Got started about 8:15 and met out SAG driver on his return portion of his bike ride in about 9 miles. He had two knee replacements about 8 months ago and cannot keep up with the other four riders in his group so he rides out and back to get some exercise and then gets his truck and catches up with the others. Anyway, he stopped again later in his truck to check on us, and we decided once again to accept a ride mostly because of my "illness", so I could have another half day's rest. This could become a habit!!  Well, it won' have a chance at becoming a habit because we won't see these people any more on this trip. They will be ahead of us. Tomorrow we have a short day anyway. 28 miles to Malta.
Today we biked 20 miles and rode in he SAG for 23 miles.

If you've never heard of Saco before, it's not surprising. Not much to it - a cafe, two bars, a grocery store, gas station, and a small library that's open 2-4:30 Tues. thru Sat. And the mosquitoes are plentiful and voracious. We went out for a walk, and swarms of mosqitoes surrounded us. Bill finally made a beeline for our motel room and wanted to get in so bad to get away from the mosquitoes that he couldn't unlock the door. I had to rescue him. Our motel, by the way, I would rate as NO stars. Clean, but probably nothing done to it for the last 40 years.

Biking today was very pleasant. Not much wind, good road, and pretty scenery. There were a few hills, but I actually prefer that to just a basically flat, straight road. Also we had lunch at a bar/restaurant in a small town called Hinsdale where I had the best tomato soup I've ever had. It had chunks of fresh tomato in it, and it tasted great. I love it when we happen upon a great little bakery or cafe and/or have some exceptionally good food in the most unlikely places, which has happened several times on this trip.

Riding on.......

Carol & Bill
