Thursday, 5/26, Steubenville, OH - Carrollton, OH, 35 miles

On the GAP
Whew! Did we have a roller coaster ride today! From the time we left our motel until we arrived at the motel we are in tonight, we had constant ups and downs. We decided that it was worse than Virginia except we had a shoulder on the road today about 90% of the time. It was also hot and humid again, so when we got here we were drained. The 35 miles we pedaled felt more like 55 miles! And then there were the sights and smells of the road - lots of roadkill today, including a deer, a raccoon, numerous squirrels and snakes, plus some unidentifiable chunks of fur that had been there too long. This is too much information, you say? Well, I'm writing a description of our trip, and this is part of it!

On the positive side, we seem to be dodging the thunderstorms and tornados that they have been forecasting for the areas around us now for several days. We got sprinkled on today for a minute or two and that was it. Tomorrow it is supposed to cool off a little, so that's encouraging. Also, we were told that as we go north the land flattens out a lot, so we're hoping for flat again. A little hill now and then is ok - just not these monster hills that go on forever. We had to walk up a part of three of them today.

OK, no more complaining. Tomorrow is another day, and we continue northwestward toward Indiana and Michigan.

Riding on......
