How exciting - my first post! We have been visiting friends in the Raleigh/Durham area for the past 9 days, and are now packing our bikes and preparing to start the biking part of our trip tomorrow morning. We had a great relaxing three days at the beach with our friend Margit Gratzl, staying at her beach house on Emerald Isle, beach walking, talking, reading, and - of course- eating! We had two delicious seafood lunches at two different restaurants in the quaint little coastal town of Swansboro. Then a very nice visit and overnight stay with an old friend and former Dean at N.C. State and his wife, and another reunion with friends Adrianna and Benson Kirkman, with whom we stayed from Friday afternoon until this morning. We went to an interesting exhibit with them at the North Carolina Museum of History about Thomas Day, a free black man in the early 1800's who was a master woodworker and furniture maker. They had many pieces of furniture in the exhibit that he had made. There was also a NC Sports Hall of Fame in the museum, in which I saw the last two minutes of the NC State/UCLA baskeball game in 1974 which NC State won in a game that was so exciting that I couldn't watch those last two minutes at the time it was being played, so now I have seen it! (We were living here at the time and were watching it on TV). After that we went to an NC State baseball game and we got a visit from their wolf mascot while we were eating at the stadium. Bill took a picture which I am going to try to put on this post - mainly for the benefit of our two sons!
I think this is enough for now. Tomorrow we ride!

Nice picture. Have fun on your bike ride.
ReplyDeleteAlright! You've started your vacation as a true socialite, Heather style. We're keepin' it real at home. Lily and I spent the night at your house on Mother's Day - all is well.
